Designed for a young family in a former flower warehouse in Berlin Neukoln. The client asked for a space that could open new possibilities of combining program while enriching the qualities of the original buildings in the heart of Berlin. The new apartment divides the space of 200 m² into two seasonal halves, a winter half and a summer half. With only one half insulated, occupation is directed by temperature. A strip of program for sleeping, cooking and working is reduced to a minimum to maintain the qualities of the existing building. A sliding wall can close half of the apartment offering the possibility for the other half to become a temporary public gallery, a winter garden, a second living room. The project proposes new ways of living within the industrial heritage of Berlin.
